It’s 2010..

..and cold! And no change any time soon. Which is actually not that bad all things considered. However, with the cold comes a jumpy mains supply. At least that is what I think. Why? I lost the PC that I use for drawing/designing all my CNC stuff. It simply stopped working.  It’s a nuisance, because I had to enlist the services af a spare Vista system. And of course, I have to install all my software again, and because most of the software depends on licenses that depend on the motherboard..  But, no worries, all important stuff is on the server..

Famous last words. The server is a very reliable Linux system, but I guess, I should know better than to rely on hardware being reliable. It looks like one of the 2 raid disks went belly up, no problem, I’ve got 2, I’ll fixit. Then the motherboard started playing up too. Not all the time, just some of the time. Could have been the reason the disk went bad. Who knows.

The end result? I’m having to remember a lot of tricks to retrieve data from a faulty raid.

So, plan D for desparate. Since is just started to snow, and it’s nice and warm inside, this will be a day of major PC re-building. (and make a reliable backup system again?)
